An abstractionist little disposed to compromise, Luigi Veronesi (1908-1998) carried out original and uncompromising research on the relations between music and painting for seven decades, identifying the formal principles of his own exacting art. He was able to absorb the intimations of the historical 20th -century artists from the Bauhaus to Constructivism while following his own personal course that led him to become a leading actor in Avant-garde movements.
Ever since his early days he addressed the stage, collaborating with Paolo Grassi and Giorgio Strehler, but above all designing almost utopian stagings that would never be performed. It was not until the 1980th that the doors of the Teatro alla Scala opened up to him and the general public were able discover his theatre of geometry and light, immaterial and colourful, entrusted to the dancers and puppets of the Compagnia Colla: A world in which scientific discipline becomes vital, blissful amazement.
