Mario Ceroli (Castel Frentano, Chieti 1938) began making sculptures in ceramic but soon found his vocation in wood. The bare, monumental outlines of his works in wood propelled him to a leading role in contemporary art.
For the theatre, after his debut as a scenographer for a
Riccardo III directed by Ronconi (1968) the artist signed unforgettable performances like Bellini’s Norma produced at La Scala in 1972.
Hieratic dolmen and mysterious arborescence, temple and forest, stirred by rays of light, Ceroli’s wooden solid is an unrepeatable, utterly fascinating one-of-a-kind.
