The scenographic activity of Arnaldo Pomodoro (Montefeltro, 1926) has always been inseparable from his sculpture that left its mark on the art of our time. On the stage his forms, the amazing machines born of his imagination, the rough and mineral textures return and become a theatrical event, recreating space: the rafts on the Lake of Zurich, the open theatre of Ghibellina, the Zisa cultural yards in Palermo, the Opera prison in Milan. At La Scala in 2007 Pomodoro designed the sets for Teneke, Fabio Vacchi’s world première directed by Ermanno Olmi: a performance greatly admired for its emotional intensity.
